Another Corporation Gains Cultural Cachet and Loses Its Soul
Published on July 17, 2008 By seanmom In Religion

For years, I have defended McDonald's from well-meaning liberal types who like to slam its corporate culture for providing only "McJobs" and serving food of questionable value.  When I was a liberal (and not at all "well-meaning") I even boycotted it when it was owned by Ray Kroc and he gave money to pro-life groups.  I was a rabid pro-abortion activist (not "pro-choice"; actively "pro-abortion."  By that I mean that, as a radical feminist, my chosen outcome for any given pregnancy--excpet people I actually knew--would be for the woman to have an abortion and move on in life to fulfill her "true potential" without the burdens of motherhood or--God forbid--marriage.)  I still remember how sweet it was to finally have a bag of french fries after Ray was dead.

Today I am a conservative Chrsitian, and it is once again my sad duty to abstain entirely from wonderful Big Macs and the best french fries in the industry.  No more chocolate shakes.  No hot apple pies.  Not even my newest love--the amazing hazelnut iced coffee (which was free on Fridays last fall, but which I must be free of this fall.)

All because they can't resist the siren song of the homosexual agenda.  All because they won't keep their big corporate nose out of the culture wars.

McDonald's, you see, has given $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and put it's Vice President for Communications on the Board of the organization.  And the NGLCC actively lobbies Congress and other parts of the government on behalf of LGBT concerns--most notably the concern that gay people apparently have to impose universal health insurance on the United States of America.  Now, I don't mind if McDonald's wants to dole out goodies to their employees who have become "domestically partnered," or "civilly unionized" or whatever they are calling it these days.  But I strongly object to the nationalization of our health insurance system (once colloquially termed "Hillary Care," but I guess now it's going to have to be something like "Barack YoMama" instead.  Another thing they are interested in is fighting traditional marriage protection legislation.

The American Family Association has asked for a boycott of McDonald's, after tryng for two months to persuade the corporate giant to stay out of the culture wars.  When the company merely affirmed its commitment to "diversity" (which, believe me, isn't your grandma's "diversity"--or even your mama's), the AFA called on its membership to boycott the place.

It's not as hard as it looks.  Really.  There's plenty of competition.  You can get a great burger at Wendy's, and genuinely good food at Chik-Fil-A, a company so Christian it isn't open on Sundays.  And I can figure out how to make my own hazelnut iced coffee.

It's this simple, for me.  Christians and other family-oriented people have the right to know that the money they are plunking down on McDonald's counter is funding things that family thinks is wrong.  The vast majority of states have passed legislation against gay marriage.  When the people are asked to vote, they vote to keep marriage between one man and one woman, every time.  It's only when the judges get involved that gay marriage moves forward.  McDonald's has chosen to side with those who are actively attempting to overturn the expressed will of the people in 44 states, in order to create a new type of union that is, in the eyes of God, flatly immoral.

Simple as that.  See you at Chik-Fil-A!

Hey more power to you. You do what you gotta do, but just in case you didn't know, this topic was covered on another article by KFC and boy was it a doozy of an article. The comments could make some have nightmares. I don't limit myself to any single fast food chain. I go where my stomach commands. Personally, I don't really care what any business does with the money I give them (unless it's killing people)  since once I acquire the product, it is no longer mine. McDonalds give money to more than just a gay righst group. They also have the Ronald McDonalds House that helps children and they also provide jobs for people and money to the franchise owner. After all, isn't the purpose of acquiring a business to make money for yourself?

As I said, do what you gotta do, based on your opinions. Just remember that these gay/lesbian people are not the only ones who will pay the price. Just thought i point that out.

Isn't that a bit hypocritical to not want a fast food chain to be on the gay/lesbian side yet it's ok for one to be Christian? I wonder what would the AFA group say if McDonalds or even Burger King or Wendys was supporting some kind of Muslim group?

Mmmmmmm, now I'm going to McDonald's again.

Best reason not to go to McDonalds - because the food and service sucks.

Worst reason not to go to McDonalds - because of some agenda from one group, individual, or anyone else.

I'll pass on going to McDonalds because of the best reason, not the worst reason.  Every now and then I may go there to get breakfast or a cheap sundae, but that's about it.  Otherwise the food is not worth it, no matter how cheap.  If I happen to bump into a few liberal types there and don't find many ultra conservatives, or should I say bigotted types there, then oh well.

That's the reason I don't go!
